MOBA BIG-SONIC-SKI in FINISHER VOGELE – PAROS AIRPORT, INTRAKAT/SIAKANDARIS

Construction of the new maneuvering area of Paros State Airport using MOBA Big-Sonic-Ski

MOBACT's technical proposal for the runway paving method:

  • The existing layering subsoil (3A) must have accuracies of +/- 3 to 4 cm.

The Finisher will be equipped with the following electronic guidance systems:

  1. MOBA-Matic (1 ultrasonic sensor + 1 controller) on one side
  2. Big-Sonic-Ski 13m (3 ultrasonic sensors + 1 controller + metal support arms) on the other side
  • 1st Asphalt Layer (5cm): For the first strip we need a reference level (seam) on one side, which the MOBA-Matic sensor will "read". On the other hand, the Big-Sonic-Ski "reads" the 3A and at the same time smoothes the longitudinal irregularities (waves up to 13m long). In the second strip, the MOBA-Matic sensor reads the "smoothed" surface of the first strip and copies it. On the other side, the Big-Sonic-Ski smooths out the undulations of the 3A, as in the first lane.
  • 2nd & 3rd Asphalt Layer (5cm & 5cm): The next two layers of asphalt will be done by simply duplicating the 1st layer.

Using the above laying method, the final surface of the final asphalt layer will have accuracies of +/-3mm

The advantages of the described method are very important to achieve accuracies and delivery times, with the minimum possible cost for the manufacturer:

  • No dowels or seam required (except the first strip for the first layer)
  • No workers are required for suture placement
  • The movement of trucks is facilitated
  • Material saving

The use of a clinometer is not recommended for laying widths of more than 2 lanes. The altitudes on the side of the inclinometer include an error due to its operating principle, which in high-demand projects is not negligible. This error is copied and carried over to subsequent lanes.
